Green Port Hull is the desired location for renewable energy development for a number of reasons including:

- International communications infrastructure (commercial ports, airports, heliports, national rail, rail freight and major road highways)
- Fifty per cent of UK manufacturing capacity is within two hours drive time
- A population of 5.2 million people, a labour pool of 2.5 million and the youngest workforce in the UK
- Forty colleges, nine universities and specialised training providers producing over 10 per cent of the UK’s engineering graduates
- Hull and its city region already has a large skills base in advanced engineering, employing more than 12,500 people in industries such as marine engineering and in the offshore environment
- Comprehensive training exists at Hull College, University of Hull and Humberside Offshore Training Association
- 12 hours’ sailing time to Round 3 wind farms
- Over 300,000 businesses in the region
