The Green Port Growth Programme Employment and Skills strand has two key elements. It aims to increase the strength of the engineering workforce and raise skill levels, in order to meet the needs of the emerging renewable energy sector.
Humber Energy Skills Campus
The Humber is a centre of excellence for energy skills in a collaboration that brings together the best knowledge, experience and facilities to meet industry needs.
The Partnership includes all major education and training providers in the Humber to offer a single point of access to opportunities to show business the breadth and quality of the energy related courses and training on offer. The core subject areas covered are Engineering (all disciplines), Maritime, Logistics, Manufacturing and Health & Safety.
The Humber Energy Skills Campus offers a solution to the skills requirements for the Renewables industry through an innovative virtual campus approach including;
- FE and 6th Form Colleges
- Higher Education Institutions
- Vocational specialist training providers
- First class facilities
- High quality training
- Industry led course curriculums

Apprenticeship Wage Subsidies
The apprentice wage subsidy programme is currently closed. If support becomes available again in the future we will post new details here.
Up-Skilling
Employers in the renewable energy sector supply chain will be able to access training subsidies to up-skill existing employees. The programme will reimburse employers up to 50% of the direct training costs incurred:
- Training packages to upgrade employees from Level 2 to 3; 3 to 4 & 4 to 5
- Training packages to upgrade employees from Level 3 to Level 4
- Training packages to upgrade employees from Level 4 to Level 5
- Specific training packages which enhance the employees’ skills and employability
All funding must be applied for and approved before any training/upskilling is booked or undertaken. No funding will be offered retrospectively.
Eligibility
The employing business must be located within Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The apprentice must reside within the Yorkshire and Humber sub region.
