Pure Renewables, which specialises in renewable heating, cooling and ventilation systems, was originally set up to provide homes with solar thermal energy systems, but has recently expanded into the commercial market. It won the Chairman’s Business Award in the ‘under 50 employees’ category.

The company has experienced significant growth in the past 18 months since gaining funding from the Green Port Growth Programme to achieve the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment (CHAS) and ISO 14001 Environmental Management. The business has also doubled its workforce, increasing the firm’s capacity to install and service ground and air source heat pumps, solar thermal and solar PV systems.

As a result, the company has seen an increase of approximately 30 per cent in turnover in the last two years, with 40 per cent of work now being in the commercial market which is continuing to grow.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council Chairman’s Awards ceremony, which was held at The Spa Bridlington on Tuesday, 10 May, celebrated the contributions made by individuals and organisations over the last year which has helped to make the East Riding a better place.

Pure Renewables was recognised for its passion for creating employment opportunities for local and young people and their commitment to staff, excellent customer service and specialisms within the renewables market. The company is heavily involved in the local community and each year give 10 per cent of their profits to local charities and offer free advice and support to local start-up businesses.

The finalists were all nominated by members of the public and were invited to attend the annual ceremony where the winners were presented with their awards by chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Peter Turner – his last engagement as chairman.

The awards were hosted by BBC Look North presenter Clare Frisby.

Councillor Turner said:

“I would like to offer my congratulations to all the winners and those who were nominated for a Chairman’s Award.

“These awards celebrate organisations and individuals who give their time freely to work and support others to make a difference within their local community as well as recognising investment made by businesses, both large and small, which contributes to, and boosts our local economy.

“It became very apparent from reading the large number of nominations received that there are many individuals, groups, businesses and organisations that create opportunities.

“They are not people simply “doing their jobs”, they are people with a vision who go the extra mile and apply their sense of creativity and commitment to make a difference.”

Chris Whitelock, Managing Director of Pure Renewables, commented:

“We are absolutely thrilled to win the award. It means a lot to us as a team. We work very hard and this accolade is for everyone. It will add to the profile of the business and help champion the renewables sector.”
