World-class offshore wind turbine blade manufacturing, assembly and servicing facilities form the centrepiece of Green Port Hull.
Together with development partner Associated British Ports, Siemens has invested £310million in offshore wind turbine production at Hull’s Alexandra Dock, directly creating 1,000 new jobs and many more during the construction phase and in the supply chain.
Hull City Council granted planning permission for the development of Alexandra Dock, to enable work to commence on the pre-assembly, project construction and logistics and distribution facilities, as well as the blade manufacturing facility and offices.
ABP appointed the GRAHAM Lagan Construction Group Joint Venture to develop the Alexandra Dock site for Siemens, including building three new berths and a roll-on, roll-off ramp.
Siemens appointed leading UK contractor VolkerFitzpatrick to build its 40,000 sq m wind turbine blade factory. Construction began in August 2015 and the factory officially opened in December 2016.
