Energy Works will be the first facility of its kind in the UK, using a combination of innovative renewable energy technologies to achieve highly efficient mix of recycling and energy conversion processes.

The project has been awarded a grant of almost £20million from the European Regional Development Fund, in recognition of the role it can play in encouraging further innovation in this field.
The facility will produce sufficient electricity to power 43,000 homes; create 180 jobs during construction and 65 jobs once operational; regenerate a brownfield site; enable other businesses to reduce their carbon footprint; and provide cheap power and heating to local companies.
Energy Works (Hull) Ltd has selected global environmental engineering specialist M&W Group as preferred bidder to design and build the facility. M&W is working with Hull-based specialist engineering business Spencer Group to develop plans to deliver the project and guarantee local employment during construction.
Energy Works will harness sustainable waste sources to generate renewable energy that will be used to power UK homes and businesses. The facility has been designed to be CHP ready so that future heat demand in the area can be satisfied with a green energy solution.
The development will bring about the regeneration of industrial land and will breathe life back onto the River Hull. It will create approximately 180 jobs during construction and 65 permanent jobs once operational.
The Cleveland Street development covers a 3 ha brownfield site in the centre of Hull’s industrial heartland next to the river Hull. The site was previously home to ADM cocoa mills which shut down in 2010 leaving the site vacant.
